“Rituals are performed on a daily basis. Repetitive actions are part of domestic life."I try to figure out some of rituals I familiar with. Then I found out most of the rituals are related to the physical activities. The movement of limb become the most important part of these activities.

In my hometown, before we eat, we will hold our "Dishwashing ritual" like a certain religious ceremony. From the elderly to the children, we will wash dishes start from chopsticks, spoons, bowls, tea cups and so on before we have something. Even if the chopsticks were just taken out of the sterilizer, they must be scalded with hot water.

Dishwashing before eat

With the "Chopsticks" element, I started to use bamboo stick to do sample.

Using in Indoor decorations

I started to focus the element " Chopsticks" and the gestures when we hold chopsticks.

Further develop

According the activities we did in the studio, I started to further develop my another pathway——”The body work“. I record some videos to observe the movement of limbs when we interacting with partners.

From limb movements in group activities to personal limb habits,I tried to find out how the shapes of these gestures influence my design.

Combine with the knitting technique we learn in the studio, I did some fashion illustration, and displayed on the body.

According to the hand movement I record, I copied how I cross my hands with print machine, and made a printing pattern using lino printing.
